Mighty Midgets score playoff upset

The Mighty Midgets opened up Wales Division postseason play with the
division’s lone upset as the sixth-seeded team knocked off No. 3 seed
Team Fire, 7-4, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington
Beach.
Luke Hamagiwa and Kevin Cant led the Mighty Midgets with a pair of
goals.
Single goals were scored by Spencer Thomas, Cody Franks and Bryan
Marony who also had two assists.
Kenny Hutchinson finished with 22 saves.
Jared Hackworth scored two goals, Brock Ane and Brett Shaver each
scored once, Bryan Bennett had two assists and Timothy Francis had 15
saves.
In other playoff games:
Roller Rebels 7, Wings 2
The top-seed Roller Rebels broke open a tight game by outscoring
the No. 8-seed Wings, 4-0, in the final period.
Brandon Weiss led all scorers with three goals, Zachary Charnell
scored twice with an assist and Stephanie McKnight and Kevin Christi
each scored once.
Bryan Paranal recorded 26 saves.
Sean Wing scored for the Wings and Rory Folsom had 40 saves.
Kings 6, Young Americans 3
David Daley posted three goals as the No. 2-seed Kings eliminated
the No. 7-seed Young Americans.
Chad Millar scored twice, Tyler Bales scored once, Carsten Beith
had three assists and Kelan Stuart had 16 saves.
Evan Zinger scored twice, Damian Raburn picked up two assists and
Jacob Renaud had 27 saves for the Young Americans.
Vipers 8, Spiders 3
Kevin Ewing scored four goals and the No. 4 seed Vipers advanced
in the tournament by downing the No. 5 Spiders.
Drew Bertoni added two goals to the Vipers’ cause, Nelson Kays and
Eric Stoner each scored once and Ali Plummer had two assists.
Blake Kelly led the Spiders with two goals and an assist, Jimmy
Hocker scored once and Ethan Berg had 20 saves.
In Norris Division playoff action:
Stars 3, Lightning 1
The top-seed Stars overcame a 1-0 first quarter deficit to advance
to the second round of postseason play.
After Luke Bosiljevac scored for the Lightning, Patrick Shearer
and Kyle Macnew scored second period goals and Kyler Scott scored in
the third period to rally the Stars.
Zachary Beko posted 21 saves.
Big Dogs 2, Lazers 0
James Newman recorded the shutout on 18 saves and Craig Wellander
scored both goals as the No. 3 seed Big Dogs eliminated the No. 6
seed Lazers.
Slugs 3, Team LA 1
Sam Hart had 15 saves and Brett Vanderham scored a goal as the No.
5 seed Slugs advanced.
Jason Lally scored and Noah Johnson had 13 saves for Team LA.
Penguins 2, Terminators 1
Tyler Macleod and Joshua Ishizaki scored goals and Kyle Macleod
had 15 saves to lead the No. 9 seed Penguins.
Ryan Voorhies scored once and Ian Arnold recorded 18 saves for the No. 8 seed Terminators.
