Police should hold heads high

Well, now we all know why these movers were starving.

We can’t help but chuckle at the coincidence of the police finding

more than 1,000 “high-grade” marijuana plants in the office suite of

the Starving College Students Moving Co.

But “starving” may be too strong a term. Perhaps a better name

would be the “Craving College Students” or “College Students with the

Munchies Moving Co.”

Of course, the use and sales of drugs is no joke, and one would

imagine that Huntington Beach resident Paul Harrington was not

laughing when Costa Mesa police officers arrested him on suspicion of

cultivating marijuana for sale.

While the name on the front of the Placentia Avenue moving company

may incite a few chuckles, it should not take away from the serious

kudos that are deserved by the detectives who followed a tip and

confiscated more than $450,000 worth of drugs and a handgun.

The marijuana was a special type, containing a high concentration

of THC, which is the stuff that gets users high. On the street, this

high-concentration pot is more commonly known as “the chronic.”

Officers not only stopped the sale of potent drugs but perhaps

thwarted a future drug-related shooting; it’s hard to imagine the gun

was there just for show.

So, a well deserved high-five to the Costa Mesa police, who are

undoubtedly the ones who got the last laugh.
