UC Irvine celebrating desegregation milestone
Two days remain in UC Irvine’s three-day symposium commemorating
the 50-year anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education case.
The campus’ cross-cultural center will host “Geography and
Segregation: Development, Race and the Origins of UCI,” a
presentation by Fred Moten, UC Irvine associate professor of
African-American studies, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. today. “Is UCI
Segregated or Integrated?,” an open forum led by Lecia Brooks of
Diversity Matters Inc., is from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
A Martin Luther King Jr. march will take place on Ring Road at the
UCI Student Center at noon Thursday, followed by a film screening
from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the cross-cultural center. The film screened
will be “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin.”
Admission to all events is free.
