Kaiser Elementary School defeated TeWinkle, 4-0, Wednesday in the
first soccer game of pool play in the girls fifth- and sixth-grade
Gold Division of the 2005 Daily Pilot Cup at Costa Mesa Farm Complex.
“We just had a lot more experience than the other team,” Kaiser
Coach Kirk McIntosh said.
Kaiser’s offense was led by forward Megan Khademi, who scored in
the first 12 minutes of the game with a breakaway goal. Blakeley
Ficenec helped out with two goals, one in the first half, assisted by
outside left midfielder Josie Jogwe and one self-assisted goal in the
second half.
In the second half, Ficenec moved around a defender after picking
up a loose ball and scored in the 33rd minute. Two minutes later,
Jogwe dribbled down the left side, cut back in the middle and scored
unassisted.
For TeWinkle, forwards Jackie Freiberger and Emily Lutzke put in a
solid effort on offense, but couldn’t get by Kaiser sweeper Shanay
Fischer. Other defensive efforts came from Kyarah Poplos and Kelly
Rorden for Kaiser.
“They were all stand outs,” TeWinkle Coach John Hinson said about
his team.
Starting at goalkeeper for Kaiser was Savanna Gastineau and
Christie Ohlhaver relieved her in the second half. Both girls had two
saves for the game. For TeWinkle, Laurel Hinson and Nikki Heinig
shared time in the goal and both had four saves and allowed two goals
to score.
“I thought my girls played great,” Hinson said. “The other team
played excellent.”
