Newport lifeguards’ blood drive at 2 p.m.
The annual Newport Beach lifeguards’ blood drive is from 2 to 8
p.m. today at the lifeguards’ headquarters at the base of Newport
Pier.
The Newport lifeguards will compete against other Southern
California lifeguard agencies to donate the most blood, a competition
they’ve won four of the last five years.
As many as 150 blood donors from the public are needed. To
participate in the blood drive, call (949) 644-3178 and bring along
identification with a picture.
Response team seeks training course help
The Costa Mesa Community Emergency Response Team is working toward
developing a free emergency preparedness course for community
members.
The response team will offer a two-session neighborhood-safety and
preparedness course to train citizens to survive disasters of every
kind. The date for the course has not yet been set.
In the first session, participants will learn about disaster
preparation and how to set up a family radio service communication
network to facilitate communication during an emergency.
In the second session, participants will receive CPR training.
The response team encourages community members to network and
discuss a proposed date for the course to begin. For information,
call Diane Hill, (714) 546-4252.
