Police arrest two burglary suspects
A burglary at a Kohls Department store in the 7700 block of
Edinger Avenue Sunday led police to arrest two men in conjunction
with a carjacking in Los Angeles, police said.
Police were called to the department store Sunday evening when two
men were reportedly seen transferring clothing and other items from a
shopping cart into a mesh bag, said Sgt. Mike Kelly.
One man left the store and was seen waiting outside in a 2001
Chevrolet Malibu with no license plates, police said. When police
arrived, the man drove away, leading police on a short pursuit
through the store parking lot
The driver, Hector G. Gonzalez, 31, of Paramount, hit several
parked cars before abandoning the Malibu and taking off on foot
across Beach Boulevard. Police pursued Gonzalez on foot and arrested
him.
Police found the second man, Juan Gabriel Estrada, 30, also of
Paramount, hiding in the restroom of a nearby Mervyn’s store.
Police said the Malibu was reported stolen out of Los Angeles
during a carjacking Saturday. Additionally, items found inside the
car were connected to another vehicle burglary, police said.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of carjacking, commercial
burglary, vehicle burglary, evading police, possession of stolen
property and resisting arrest.
Local arrested on suspicion of prowling
A Huntington Beach man was arrested for prowling around a
residence in the 4700 block of Arena Circle early Monday, police
said.
A woman called police when she heard someone walking on her front
porch, police said. Two neighbors held the prowler until police
arrived.
When officers approached the man, he broke free and led police on
a foot pursuit for several blocks until the officers were able to
apprehend him.
Ryan James Dyer, 19, of Huntington Beach was arrested on suspicion
of disorderly conduct and loitering on private property, police said.
Couple accused
of Medicare fraud
A couple will be arraigned today in Los Angeles Superior Court on
charges of filing $5.8 million in fraudulent Medicare bills from July
2002 to November 2004, officials said.
Sarkis Musoyan, 37, and Azatui Dilboyan, 37, were arrested Tuesday
at their Burbank home for allegedly submitting false bills in
physicians’ names through offices in Huntington Beach, as well as
Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Long Beach, said Jane Robison, a
spokeswoman for Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
The couple would hire doctors and then use their names to file
false claims.
Musoyan and Dilboyan are being held in Los Angeles County Jail on
$6-million bail each.
They face 119 counts each of money laundering, tax fraud, grand
theft and conspiracy.
The alleged Medicare scheme was so large, it includes a special
allegation because the amount exceeds $2.5 million, Robison said.
“It could possibly enhance, if convicted, how much time they could
get,” she said.
The couple could face up to 70 years in prison, according to a
district attorney’s office.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Albert MacKenzie would not comment on the case
before the arraignment.
