Concert series set
at Bluebird Park
Sunday marks the first concert of the eight-week season of the
2005 Summer Concert Series at Bluebird Park with Creedence Clearwater
Revival tribute band Tombstone Shadow. Steve Copeland and Raging Sun
will perform blues July 31. Folk music performed by Jason Feddy will
be on Aug. 7. Eagle tribute band Desperado takes stage Aug. 14.
California sounds by Ken Garcia is featured Aug. 21. The Neat plays
the best of the 60s. On Aug. 28, Soundbytes play soul and popular
music for the final concert at Bluebird Park. On Sept. 11 the concert
moves to Riddle Field with Savor playing Santana’s best.
The concerts are free and go from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring blankets,
beverages and a picnic basket. The concerts are at Bluebird Park at
the corner of Bluebird Drive and Cress St. For information, call

Medical center debuts art walk
South Coast Medical Center Auxiliary is introducing an art walk at
South Coast. The first display will feature local landscape artist,
Tim Howe, at 2 p.m. today, with festivities beginning at 2 p.m. The
community is invited to meet Howe at the opening day celebration with
a ribbon cutting, refreshments and a live ice sculpting exhibit at
South Coast Medical Center at 31872 S. Coast Highway. For

Kathryn Grimm performs at festival
Singer-songwriter Kathryn Grimm is performing regularly at the
Sawdust Art Festival. Her schedule is as follows: noon to 4 p.m.
Monday (duet); 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday (solo); 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sun.,
Aug. 14, (duet); and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sat., Aug. 26, (solo).
“Grimm Again,” her recently released, 10-song CD, has received
critical praise. Grimm’s guitar skills and voice have backed many
artists, including Bo Diddley, Elvis Costello, and Michael Bolton.
She is also a published songwriter whose music has been featured in
numerous soundtracks and commercials.
Brewing company
hosts comedy review
Epstein Productions presents a comedy review, “One Funny Night” at
8 p.m. July 27 at Laguna Beach Brewing Co. 422 S. Coast Highway.
Cover charge is $7. Special guest will be Michael Flood, Comedy

‘Lagunatics: 2005 Senior Prom’
No Square Theatre will present “Lagunatics 2005: Senior Prom” at
Laguna Beach High School Artists’ Theatre July 29, 30 and 31. This
hilarious musical revue of local performers is the kickoff
fund-raiser for the Laguna Beach Seniors’ capital campaign to build,
equip, and endow a new senior center in Laguna Beach.
More than 50 cast members from movie critic Bill Harris to Mayor
Elizabeth Pearson-Schneider and Police Chief Jim Spreine will perform
in all-original parodies such as, “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Dress
Up To Be Call Girls,” “Cooking School Dropout” and “Montagio.” It’s
an annual favorite, “roast of life on the coast.”
Friday’s opening night is a “Sock Hop” from 6 to 7:45 p.m.
followed by Lagunatics at 8 p.m. Tickets are $75. Saturday’s theme is
“Class Reunion” from 12 to 1:45 p.m. followed by Lagunatics at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $40 and $50.
Saturday Night is the Ketel One Gala Night starting with a “Senior
prom” from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and Lagunatics at 8 p.m. Tickets are $125
and include valet parking, Ketel One martini’s, fine wine, a gourmet
buffet, raffle and more.
Each showing offers fine wines, snacks, dessert and a raffle, as
well as on Sunday, closing night. Sunday’s theme is “Summer Picnic”
from 5 to 6:45 and Lagunatics at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75.

Festival puts on
a Hawaiian day
From noon to 4 p.m. July 30 the Festival of Arts is having its
annual Hawaiian Cultural Day. The event features faraway cultures,
traditions, lei making, fine art and hands-on crafts, music and other
Hawaiian influences showcased through demonstrations. Joe Aki and the
Poi Pounders will play Hawaiian music with hula dancing.
The event is free with Festival of Arts admission, $7 for general
admission and $5 for seniors and students. Laguna Beach locals get
free admission every day with proper identification.

Alumni to exhibit
at local art college
Laguna College of Art & Design will have an exhibition of leading
artists and designers who received their Bachelors Degrees from
Laguna College. “The Annual Juried Alumni Exhibition,” will show
original artwork by alumni. The exhibition begins July 30 and runs
through Aug. 27 at the college gallery with an artist reception from
7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 4.
Alumni of Laguna College are asked to submit work, which is then
juried collectively. The resulting exhibition represents the best
work submitted.
Among those in the show are” Kimberly Anderson-Merrill, Susan
DeRosa, Eric Malabanan, Sergio Rebia, Higuera Jorge, Niclas Kruger,
Ted Penderaraft, Christopher Scardino, Shakiba Hashemi, Regina
Jacobson and David Vargo.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Laguna College is at

Sawdust exhibitors
create on skimboards
Thirty-six Sawdust exhibitors each were given a blank skimboard to
turn into a one-of-a-kind work of art. They will be in the
exhibitors’ booths through Aug. 4. The boards will be auctioned at 7
p.m. Aug. 5 with the proceeds going to Surfrider Foundation, Laguna
Outreach for Community Arts and the Sawdust Art Festival’s education
and demonstration programs. The fundraiser will feature live
entertainment by surf band The Eliminators. Sawdust Art Festival, 935

Theater to present
‘A Chorus Line’
Gallimaufry Performing Arts will present “A Chorus Line.” Michael
Bennett’s tale of Broadway’s gypsies (chorus line dancers), which won
a Pulitzer, the New York Drama Critics Award, nine Tonys and became
the longest-running show in Broadway history. Marvin Hamlisch and
Edward Kleban’s score includes “Nothing,” “The Music and the Mirror,”
“Dance: Ten, Looks: Three,” “What I Did for Love” and “One.” Musical
direction by Roxana Ward, choreography by Luis Avila and produced and
directed y Steve Josephson. Performances are at 8 p.m. Aug. 4, 5 and
6 at the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave. Tickets are $20 adults and

Catch some fun at festival on Aug. 6
The Festival of Arts is having its Surf’s Up day from noon to 4
p.m. Aug. 6. The event celebrates the history of surfing and the
unique California lifestyle, including tidepool and marine life
programs with an aquarium on wheels, custom painted and vintage
surfboards surf related art, music by The Eliminators surf band and
screenings of Greg McGillivray surf film “Five Summer Stories” in the
Forum Theatre. Event activities are free with admission.
