Hermes scarf printer to demonstrate craftUpscale retailer Hermes will host a scarf printing demonstration series today through Thursday at its South Coast Plaza store.
Guests will get to meet the scarf designer from the Hermes Ateliers in Lyon, France, and learn about his technique. The craftsman will demonstrate how to make two different scarves, one of which was chosen to honor the recent opening of the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
The store will host the demonstration at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
OCC to vote on faculty, staff of the yearOrange Coast College announced its nominations this week for faculty member of the year, staff member of the year and part-time faculty member of the year, in an annual competition voted on by staff and students.
The program, sponsored by OCC’s Academic Senate and Staff Development Office, honors winners in each category every year. During balloting on Nov. 28 and 29, faculty and staff members will vote on which of their colleagues to honor.
In all, 11 full-time and seven part-time instructors and six classified staff members received nods. The faculty member of the year is set to be the featured speaker at OCC’s commencement in May.
Physical education professor Leon Skeie won faculty member of the year last year, with receiving clerk Eligio Ortiz winning in the staff category and six part-time instructors winning divisional titles.
Eateries group looking for a few good foodiesThe Newport Beach Restaurant Assn. is looking for volunteers to help plan next year’s inaugural Newport Beach Restaurant Week.
The event’s planning committee members will help plan the gala launch reception and other programs to help promote the event, which is scheduled from Jan. 21 through 25.
Committee members can come from any city as long as they have working knowledge of Newport Beach restaurants.
Restaurant week is to promote Newport as a premiere dining destination. Almost 100 restaurants throughout the city will provide a sampling of their best dishes. Chefs will offer a three-course, fixed menu just for this event. Lunch will cost $12.95, and guests will pay $26.95 for dinner.
