HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor High senior Brian Siemonsma scored with two minutes remaining in the second 20-minute overtime period Friday to give the Sailors a 2-1 Sunset League triumph at Edison High.
Siemonsma headed in a free kick off the foot of Chris Solis to break the 1-1 deadlock, which was created when Sailors’ senior Sergio Rodriguez scored on a volley from the top of the 18-yard box in the second half of regulation.
Newport is now (7-4-3, 1-0-1).
BOYS’ SOCCER
Sage Hill 1, Brethren Christian 0
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior Richard Gadbois scored in the 15th minute in the Academy League opener for both teams Friday at the Warriors’ field.
Gadbois fielded a throw-in from Alex Edelstein with his back to the goal. He settled the ball, turned and drove a six-yard shot past the goalie to help the Lightning improve to 7-0-2.
Junior Beau Caillouette had six saves to record the third shutout of the season.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Sage Hill 4, Brethren Christian 0
NEWPORT COAST — Sophomore midfielder Isa-Marie Taskinen had two goals and an assist to lead the Lightning in the Academy League opener for both schools Friday at Sage Hill.
Junior forward Sara Montazami also scored twice and freshman goalie Hannah Macleod had three saves to help the Lightning improve to 4-5-2.
Jules McLaughlin and Kara Percival added assists for the winners, who battle St. Margaret’s on the road Tuesday.
WRESTLING
Estancia New Year Classic
COSTA MESA — Newport Harbor High junior Josh George and senior Brian Beaudette, as well as Estancia’s Efren Alvarez each advanced to today’s semifinals in their respective weight divisions by winning a pair of matches Friday at Estancia High.
George, who finished seventh in the tournament last season, will face Garrett Drucker of Edison today for the right to advance to the 135-pound final. The semifinals are tentatively scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
George (16-3), the No. 4 seed, received a first-round bye. He then pinned Robert Spell from Savanna in 3 minutes, 30 seconds.
In the quarterfinal, George defeated Brian Sadiua from Irvine, 18-11.
Beaudette, competing in the heavyweight division, also had a first-round bye. He then pinned Mohamed Mohamed from Irvine in 3:30, before pinning David Macias of Montclair in 5:40.
Beaudette (14-4) will face Josh Ortega from Santa Ana in today’s semifinals.
Other Newport Harbor wrestlers advancing to the consolation rounds were sophomore Eddie Garcia (112-pound division), senior Bruce Hartshorn (189), and junior Bryan Bennett (215).
Corona del Mar wrestlers advancing to the consolation rounds included Josh Hughes (130) and Travis Prickett (171).
Estancia senior Gabe Thaler (189) also advanced to the consolation round.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Newport Harbor 11, El Toro 4
NEWPORT BEACH — Allyssa Peterson had four goals to lead the Sailors in a nonleague clash Friday at the Sailors’ pool.
Jillian Chiapuzio chipped in three goals, while Morgan Vickers had seven saves for the Sailors, who improved to 7-3.

Costa Mesa, which is 2-1 in the tournament, improved to 6-8.
