Robber faces charges

Federal agents have filed one charge of bank robbery against a man suspected of hitting the same Huntington Beach bank five times and a credit union in Fountain Valley four times.

David Carl Camp, 54, of Fountain Valley, is being held in the Santa Ana City Jail without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 29 at the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana.

Camp admitted to robbing the Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union in Fountain Valley on Jan. 3, according to a federal affidavit filed Friday. He also told investigators that he robbed the Union Bank in Huntington Beach on Dec. 1. However, he has been charged only with the Jan. 3 robbery.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are definitely a possibility,” said Thom Mrozek, spokesman for the United States Attorney’s Office.

Fountain Valley Police arrested Camp just after noon on Jan. 4 in front of a coffee shop near downtown Huntington Beach. He had evaded FBI agents and police in both cities since he allegedly robbed the Huntington Beach bank in August 2005.

Camp is suspected of hitting the Union Bank previously on Aug. 31, 2005, Sept. 22, 2005, Nov. 28, 2005 and March 17, 2006.

Information attained after Camp allegedly robbed the Orange County Teachers’ Federal Credit Union in Fountain Valley Wednesday morning, along with details from Huntington Beach’s investigation, led detectives to Camp, police said.
