HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:Sea Kings’ boys cruise past Trojans, 85-58

CORONA DEL MAR — Corona del Mar High senior Stefan Kaluz had 28 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Sea Kings’ boys’ basketball team to an 86-58 Pacific Coast League victory over University Friday night on the Sea Kings’ floor.

Senior John Joyce contributed 13 points and 10 rebound for the winners, ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division III-A.

Corona del Mar improved to 14-7, 3-1 in league.

Coach Ryan Schachter’s hosts led, 25-13, after one period and were up, 45-29, by halftime.

Seniors Eddie Lane and Ryan Anderson chipped in nine points apiece for Corona del Mar, which also received six points from Austin Evett.

It was Evett’s first action in a week. He had been sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Sophomore Tierney Danner added 11 points for Sage Hill (9-11, 4-2 in league). The Warriors dropped to 5-1 in league.

Tyre added 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Goalie Jake Blitzer recorded seven saves for Sage Hill (9-0-2, 6-0 in league), which plays at St. Margaret’s on Friday.

LOS ALAMITOS — The Griffins scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute in a Sunset League game Friday at McCulluff Middle School.

Newport Harbor fell to 9-6-3, 3-2-1 in league, despite playing well, said Coach Ryan Hernandez.

“I’m proud of my guys,” Hernandez said. “Even to lose how we did, they weren’t down on themselves.

The Sailors begin the second round of league play Friday at home against Edison.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 4, Brethren Christian 0HUNTINGTON BEACH — Seniors Ali McLaughlin and Kara Percival, and freshman Jackie Dion each had a goal and an assist for the Lightning in Academy League action Friday at Brethren Christian.

Lauren Neal added the final goal for Sage, which led, 3-0, at halftime.

Freshman goalie Hannah Macleod recorded three saves and Amanda Leckner played well defensively to help Sage (7-7-2, 4-1 in league) record its second shutout of the week.

Brethren fell to 4-12-0, 2-0-4.
