ANAHEIM — The Eagles led, 2-0, after 11 minutes, but were forced to rally for the nonleague tie Monday in the season opener on the Rebels’ field.

Tony Flores opened the scoring for the Eagles, heading in an Eric Duarte free kick in the eighth minute.

In the 10th minute, Ronny Argueta headed in a corner kick by Jose Garcia for the Eagles.

Savanna, however, scored the next three goals, before Estancia got the equalizer in the 77th minute when Ricky Gomez finished an assist from Danny Martinez at the top of the box.

An Estancia foul in the closing seconds created a penalty shot for Savanna, but Estancia freshman goalkeeper Edgar Vega dived to his right to stop the would-be game-winner and preserve the tie.

Vega finished with five saves.

Corona del Mar 2, Sage Hill 0

NEWPORT COAST — Forwards Reed Williams and Paolo Iacarino scored goals in the nonleague season opener Monday.

Iacarino had an assist on Williams’ opening goal. Iacarino’s goal was unassisted.

CdM’s Zak Maurer-Erickson (five saves) earned the shutout.
