Boys’ Division II Playoffs
Newport-Mesa Bruins 45, Tustin Wilcox 17: Offensively, the Bruins had three players score in double-figures, led by Hagen Truninger and his season-high 17 points. Robby Bracho and Ryan Maister both added 10.
Ryan Cargile and Christian Watson wreaked havoc on the opposition while Parker Reposa and Sam Bush controlled the boards.
Capo-Dana Globetrotters 45, Newport-Mesa Warriors 27: The previously undefeated Warriors (10-1) ran into a buzz-saw in the first round of the playoffs against a stacked Capo-Dana team. Matt Hurst, Milad Rohani, Cole Norris, Will Van Dalsem, Preston Dexter, TK McWhertor, Jake Hastings and Jason Knapp all played well in the loss.
Newport-Mesa Zips 43, Trabuco Celtics 16: Connor Sage was all over the court and led all scorers with 20 points. Joey Cooper led the team on defense and added 10 points. Daniel Henry played great defense and scored two key points for the Zips. Nolan McCarthy was a dominant force inside and added 10 points.
Joey Faris showed his speed and athleticism shutting down the opposition’s leading scorer all game. DaSean Lewis, Clint Henderson, Luke Shea and Matt McKinnon all contributed for the Zips.
