The Huntington Beach Breeze 12-and-under club softball team won the 2008 Triple Crown World Series in Park City, Utah, over the weekend.
The Breeze won the title by edging the Nevada Lighting, 7-6, in the final Saturday. Cami McNabb’s bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning won the game for the Breeze.
The Breeze trailed, 6-5, in the last inning but a two-out single by Ally Forsberg and a run-scoring double by Breanna Payson tied the score before McNabb’s heroics. Brittany Hitchcock went the distance for her seventh win during the week.
The Breeze went 9-1 during the tournament, recording wins over teams from Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Nevada and California before winning their first national championship.
Team members are: Cassie Baughman, Emily Cardona, Maddison Cornelius, Ally Forsberg, Brittany Hitchcock, Erika Jason, Mary McGregor, Cami McNabb, Brynne McNabb, Nicole Minnicucci, Breanna Payson, Cheyenne Rankin, Jenni Rulon, Mak Williamson and Sammy Vandiver.
