Two men who police arrested in separate incidents over the weekend on suspicions of assaults with deadly weapons are due in court today, Orange County Sheriff’s records show.
Both men, who police called transients, were arrested by Costa Mesa police after getting into confrontations with other people in public, police said.
Jose Zamora, 46, was arrested Sunday morning after police say he and another man began arguing over who owned aluminum cans in a shopping cart nearby and Zamora hit the man in the chest with a wooden broom handle, Sgt. Mark Manley said.
The man sustained a red mark from the hit, but told police he wanted to press charges anyway, Manley said. Zamora is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
On Saturday, William Brown, 48, was arrested after getting into an argument with the manager of the In-N-Out restaurant on 19th Street, police said.
Police say when Brown went to the In-N-Out at about 1:50 p.m. and began asking customers for money, the manager asked him to leave.
Brown grabbed a rock about the size of a softball and cocked back his arm like he was going to throw it at the manager, Manley said.
He didn’t throw the rock and no one was injured, police said, but Brown was arrested regardless.
Brown is also in custody at Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
