The Costa Mesa Community Athletic Foundation will honor Costa Mesa City Manager Allan Roeder at the upcoming Mesa Verde Classic Golf Tournament and Dinner for working to develop more sports fields in the city.
Roeder initiated a planning process for schools needing added facilities or renovation like Costa Mesa High School, TeWinkle Middle School, and California and Davis elementary schools. As part of the plan, the city hired a consultant and picked representatives from youth sports organizations and homeowners associations.
“Allan has been a great asset in our community in helping to find solutions to developing sports fields in a built-out city,” said Gordon Bowley, the foundation’s president.
Councilwoman Katrina Foley said Roeder’s undertaking was larger in scope than anything she has seen in surrounding cities.
