Covington ‘top agent’ at Prudential for 2008

For the second year in a row, Shauna Covington has been named No. 1 Prudential agent for 2008 in Orange County and Laguna Beach. Covington had the top production in revenue out of all of the family of Prudential Agents throughout Orange County and Laguna Beach.

Covington has been top-producing agent in the Prudential California Realty Laguna Beach office for nine years, working with clients in Laguna Beach, Monarch Beach, Laguna Niguel and Dana Point.

She is a director for the Laguna Board of Realtors, where she serves as chairwoman of the Grievance Committee. She is also a director of Prudential’s Luxury Division.

A graduate of USC with a degree in education, Covington received the USC Educational Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award from the School of Education. A licensed real estate agent since 1988, she launched her career as sales manager for Covington Homes in Orange and San Diego counties, where she set records for selling out communities before they were completed.

One of her key marketing strategies is photography.

“Now that virtually all home searches begin on the Internet, it’s essential to create breathtaking visual images,” she said.

Covington said her global connections have also proven valuable in the current market.

“I’m seeing a large number of international sales,” she said. “Our marketing has substantially increased on Internet-based real estate websites. You have to do it all if you want to capture this market. Local advertising in regional publications is also important for residents and visitors that come to coastal Orange County.”

Covington can be contacted at (949) 395-8786 or www.shaunacovington.com.

Ethiopian ‘coffee’ fundraiser planned

The Laguna Coffee Company will host “Coffee For A Cure,” a fundraiser for Life’s Second Chance, a nonprofit dedicated to the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer in Ethiopia. The July 18 evening event will include a performance of the traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony.

Wossene Bowler, a Laguna Beach resident of Ethiopian descent and an avid coffee drinker, founded Life’s Second Chance, with the long-term goal to fund and build a cancer hospital in Ethiopia.

“Coffee made from Ethiopian coffee beans is literally the drink of life and will be celebrated with a special free flowing coffee ceremony,” Bowler said. “Experience a uniquely Ethiopian ambience characterized by warm support, friendship and the kind of unconditional hospitality that surpasses expectation.”

In addition to the Coffee Ceremony, the evening features a buffet of Ethiopian foods and a performance of traditional Ethiopian music. The suggested donation is $25.
