High School Roundup: Ramirez leads Newport to win

Newport Harbor 2, Baldwin Park 1

NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor sophomore Henry Ramirez scored on a penalty kick in the 36th minute for the game-winner in the nonleague game Wednesday.

Ramirez drew the penalty, as he was taken down in the box. Baldwin Park scored in the 26th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Sailors sophomore Jonny Arroyo scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Senior goalkeeper Rudy Reyes made three saves for Newport Harbor (5-3-2).

The Sailors begin play in the Marina tournament Tuesday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Yucca Valley 56, Estancia 53

PALM SPRINGS – Rashad Davis had 29 points, 17 rebounds and three steals for the Eagles in a Palm Springs tournament game.

Jazz Hill had 11 points with two three pointers for the Eagles (6-3), who continue play in the tournament Thursday.
