USC football: Texas A&M; was not on the Trojans schedule

The college football world was atwitter Friday amid reports that Texas A&M; had dropped USC and Oregon from future schedules.
Only one problem: Texas A&M; was never on USC’s schedule.
Go back to 2009, when then Texas A&M; athletic director Bill Byrne announced that he was finalizing games against USC in 2015 and 2016 and Oregon in 2018 and 2019.
Current Texas A&M; Athletic Director Eric Hyman told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday that those games are no longer part of Texas A&M;’s plans.
Steve Lopes, USC’s chief operating officer, said Friday that he had preliminary discussions with Texas A&M; several years ago, but “they never progressed past the point of preliminary discussions and there never was a contract between the two schools.”
USC opens the 2013 season on Aug. 29 at Hawaii.
