If you’ve ever longed to go on an expedition to Antarctica or the Arctic, Alaska or Mexico, Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic is offering free airfare on selected small-ship voyages for a limited time. The offer is good for more than a dozen itineraries that take you away for a week or as long as a month.
The deal: Free airfare covers flights from gateway cities to destinations where trips with guides and naturalists begin. Here are some examples:
The eight-day Journeys in the Sea of Cortez leaving Dec. 14 includes free round-trip airfare from L.A. to Los Cabos, Mexico. The ship can accommodate 62 guests, and prices start at $4,990 a person, based on double occupancy. Participants will track whales and dolphins and explore bird and marine life on islands in the waters off Baja’s east coast. Book by June 30 to get the free airfare.
The 10-day Upper Amazon Tour includes seven dates from May to October and comes with a $500 air credit. The ship accommodates 28 guests, and prices start at $5,870 per person, based on double occupancy. The cruise covers remote stretches of the Upper Amazon River in Peru where pink river dolphins and other wildlife live. Participants hike the rain forest and kayak parts of the river too. Book by June 30 to receive the airfare credit.
When: Free or discounted airfare applies to trips booked by the end of May or the end of June (varies by itinerary).
Details: These trips will appeal to conservation-minded folks looking for fairly intensive tours of natural areas rather than hopping from country to country. Here are all the destinations that offer discounts, including a Columbia and Snake Rivers Journey in the Pacific Northwest and a trip that explores Alaska’s Coastal Wilderness.
