Lego Queen Elizabeth dons diamond crown for 60th coronation year

The roughly 4-inch Lego likeness of Queen Elizabeth II will wear a silver-and-diamond crown less than an inch big to mark the 60th anniversary of the British monarch’s coronation.

The Queen of Miniland, as she’s called, will show off the crown with 48 cut diamonds that was created by jewelry designer Dinny Hall. The Lego queen first displayed the crown during last year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The real Queen Elizabeth, by the way, was crowned with the almost 5-pound St. Edward’s Crown six decades ago at Westminster Abbey in London. Today, the crown resides at the Tower of London for tourists to view as they make their way around the landmark built in 1066.

The little crowned queen will be on display from May 25-27 at the Legoland Windsor Resort in Windsor, England, before heading north to the Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester from May 31 to June 2, the official coronation day. Tickets start at $52 for adults and $42 for children.

Other coronation-themed events include:

--A Coronation Classics Singalong at Royal Albert Hall on June 2 where you can join in with an odd mashup of music, from “There’ll Always Be an England” to “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah.” The London Concert Orchestra and Chorus will be special guests at the event. Tickets start at $22.

--The Ledbury Ox Roast on June 1 and 2 in Ledbury, Herefordshire, re-creates the original roast the community had 60 years ago on coronation day. The same cutlery will be used, and you don’t have to be a local to attend. Tickets cost about $9 each.

--The Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace from July 11 to 14 will take place in the gardens of the queen’s residence in London. By day there are booths featuring innovative technology, home and garden themes and food; by night, there will be musical performances. Tickets are sold out.
