Alemany keeping it close, Crespi playing sloppy

Well, I called it a sure-bet Crespi victory about an hour and a half ago, but thanks to some great Alemany strategy and some stupid penalties on the Celts’ part, the Warriors lead, 7-6, at halftime.

The Warriors scored on a 41-yard TD catch by WR Antonio Bray after recovering their own onside kickoff at the beginning of the game. Alemany’s Jon Mesa then blocked a field goal attempt and Crespi missed a 31-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of the first half.

However, the Celts likely would have scored a TD on their final possession of the half if they hadn’t been called for a personal foul. In fact, Crespi has been called for 65 yards in penalties, the worse of which came when Adam Gottschalk’s sure-thing TD run off a blocked field goal was called back. Come on, Celts, you’re better than that.

Crespi QB Bryan Bennett has passed 163 yards and connected on a 53-yard TD pass to David Valencia, but the Celts failed to convert their two-point attempt.

In the photo, six members of Crespi’s 1973 football team were honored at halftime. They were part of the Celts’ first Division 4A team and played in the divisional finals that year in the Coliseum.
