Girls’ basketball: Santa Clara 26, St. Bernard 20 at halftime

Cynthia Hernandez had 14 points to give second-seeded Oxnard Santa Clara a 26-20 halftime lead against top-seeded Playa Del Rey St. Bernard in the Southern Section Division 5AA championship Saturday at Santa Ana Mater Dei.

The Saints (24-6), who are trying to win their first championship since 1989, are playing good team basketball and have held the Vikings (20-13) to 18.9% shooting. The Saints shot 45.5% in the first half.

Lajauna Drummer and Chyanne Butler lead St. Bernard with five points apiece.
