It went just the way De La Salle had hoped _ low scoring. But Santa Ana Mater Dei found a way to win the Division I title, 43-36, over the Spartans.
Katin Reinhardt scored 17 points. Xavier Johnson, Eli Stalzer and David Brown all contributed baskets in a fourth-quarter struggle. Freshman Stanley Johnson finished with 15 rebounds.
Mater Dei (32-3) won its record-tying eighth state title. Crenshaw also has eight.
‘It’s great,’ Reinhardt said. ‘We’re young and we’re coming back next year.’
