Baseball: Valencia wins title in Tennessee behind Quintero

Valencia made its trip to Memphis a productive one, winning the tournament title in Tennessee by beating Bishop Verot of Fort Myers, Fla., 6-1, in the championship game Saturday.
Quincy Quintero was named tournament MVP. Jake Roberge threw a complete game. Quintero had two hits and two RBIs. Jason Spigner had a pinch-hit two-run home run. Alex Bishop and Nick Rivas made the all-tournament team.
Two of the top pitchers in Ventura County went at it, and Camarillo’s Hunter Virant emerged as the winner over Oaks Christian and Travis Radke, 2-0.
North Hollywood-Harvard-Westlake defeated Culver City, 7-3. Arden Pabst went three for four with two RBIs.
Arleta defeated Sylmar, 8-0. Javy Lopez threw a complete game with nine strikeouts. Birmingham defeated Calabaas, 3-2, in eight innings. Kevin Torres, Pedro Santoyo and Randy Medellin had two hits each.
Simi Valley defeated Rio Mesa, 3-1. Spencer Dubaich threw three shutout innings of relief.
Wilmington Banning scored five runs in the seventh to beat Woodland Hills Taft, 6-5. All-City pitcher Jonathan Hernandez, in his first outing of the year, pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Gilbert Cervantes had the key hit, a two-out, two-strike single in the seventh.
Elliot Surrey threw a no-hitter in the first game to lead Crescenta Valley past Chula Vista Mater Dei, 2-0. He struck out 10. In the second game, Mater Dei won, 3-2.
Moorpark defeated Woodland Hills El Camino Real, 4-3, with Matt Higginbottham getting three hits.
Burbank defeated Ventura, 8-7. Daniel Starkland had a home run and three RBIs.
