Bitter Pill Has One Mother’s Support
I found your article on bittering agents interesting because I never knew such a substance existed (“Antidote for Child Poisonings: A Bitter Pill,” March 26).
What a great way to reduce poisonings. I’m the mother of two toddlers and would most definitely purchase a product with Bitrex over one without it.
If manufacturers are concerned about drawing attention to their products’ toxicity, simply add the Bitrex, list it under ingredients, and leave it at that. No need to advertise it.
Why not make the bitter compound itself available (like the vomit-inducing Ipecac syrup is available) to the consumer who can then add it to whatever hazardous substance they wish?
I’d buy.
