Perkins Is Ill: Rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Carl Perkins has a cancerous growth in his throat and will undergo surgery to remove it. The growth will be removed as soon as possible, and some of his upcoming concerts will be canceled, said Greg Perkins, his son. Perkins, 59, is best known for his 1956 record “Blue Suede Shoes,” which Elvis Presley also recorded.
