Lucero Wins Speedway Scratch Main Event

COSTA MESA — Steve Lucero of Riverside won the four-lap scratch main event in the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds Friday.

Mike Faria of Colton was second, Phil Collins of Newport Beach third and Louis Kossuth of Diamond Bar fourth. Lucero took the lead at the start and won by about the length of a bike.

Russ Wageman of Valencia won the eight-lap handicap main event. Doug Bower of Bellflower was second, Shawn McConnell of Brea third, Brad Oxley of San Clemente fourth and Faria was fifth.
