The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday proposed a total of $236,500 in civil penalties against two Southland firms for alleged PCB handling and storage violations.
One EPA complaint lists alleged polychlorinated biphenyls violations at North American Environmental Inc.’s PCB commercial storage facilities in Wilmington and Rancho Cordova. The complaint, which recommends a $124,500 fine for North American, alleges that the Westminster-based company failed to notify EPA of the handling and storage of PCB items for disposal.
In the second case, the EPA proposed a $112,000 civil penalty against the Dial Corp. for alleged PCB violations at its facility in South Gate. According to the complaint, fluids containing PCBs leaked from an electrical transformer in violation of federal law.
