Alhambra : Firms to Pay Sweeping Fees
Most Alhambra households will save about $7.95 a year as the city shifts to businesses part of the costs for street sweeping and graffiti removal.
Cost of the services was previously included on residents’ trash bills, City Manager Kevin Murphy said.
Since businesses’ trash bills are sent directly from the trash haulers to the commercial customer, there was no convenient way for the city to add sweeping and graffiti charges, he said.
However, both businesses and residences pay into the city’s Public Works Maintenance and Improvement Assessment District. So the City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to start charging for the services through assessment district bills.
