Murals, Jewelry, Mask-Making in Art Workshops for Children

SAN DIEGO — Free art workshops for children will be offered through September in murals, jewelry and mask making.
The workshops, for children ages 8 to 16, are sponsored by Centro Cultural de la Raza and Mervyn’s department stores, a spokesman for the Centro said. They will be held in shopping center parking lots near Mervyn’s stores in San Diego, Imperial Beach and National City.
San Diego muralist Victor Ochoa leads mural workshops from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and July 29 and 31 at the Grove shopping center, 3450 College Ave., across from Mervyn’s.
At the same location in August, artist Salvador Torres will lead workshops in jewelry making from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and 7, Aug. 12 and 14, and Aug. 19 and 21.
The arts and crafts workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 and Sept. 7 at the Mervyn’s in Imperial Beach, 575 Saturn Blvd.
Victor Ochoa will lead another mask-making workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 14-15 at the National City Mervyn’s, 3010 Plaza Bonita Blvd. Reservations are required for this two-day session.
