Altadena : 5-House Project Opposed
The Town Council, reacting to residents’ complaints, on Tuesday voted to recommend against a proposed development in north-central Altadena.
Tony Degreef, a San Dimas-based developer, has requested Los Angeles County approval to build five houses on about 1.6 acres at 331 E. Wapello St. To do so, he would tear down three houses on the property and cut down four large oaks, six mature deodars and a large Canary Island pine, according to a Town Council subcommittee report.
Nearby neighbors want Degreef to build only three houses and want him to save the trees. They have circulated a petition against the development and on Tuesday asked the Town Council to intervene with the county on their behalf.
Degreef said he is willing to look into ways to allow the trees to stand, but said he intends to build all five homes if he receives county approval.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday before a hearing officer of the county Department of Regional Planning.
