Flying Fingers Earn Typing Trophies for Father-Son Combination From India

BRUSSELS — An Indian father and son who hear music in the tap-tap of typewriters on Friday clattered to third-place prizes in an international typing competition.
Rajinder Singh, a dentist, and his son, Arunjeet Thakur, won bronze medals in the senior and junior categories of the championships. The family is from Theog, in northern India.
“We do this just as a hobby,” said the father, a three-time and defending world champion. “We all enjoy the musical rhythm of typing.”
It was the first time in 19 championships that a family combination finished among the top competitors, said Jos Jossart, president of Intersteno, which organized the weeklong competition among 1,000 competitors from 50 nations.
The Singhs each manage about 500 strokes a minute on a manual typewriter.
