A narcotics suspect who allegedly turned on pursuing police officers with a gun was shot and wounded in South-Central Los Angeles, authorities said Tuesday. Sgt. Lon Salzman said officers thought that Timothy Terry, 28, was selling drugs when they saw him Monday night in the 100 block of West 103rd Street. When officers tried to talk to him, Terry fled down an alley and into the back yard of a home.
Officer Brent Richards, who has 3 1/2 years with the department, ran after him. Two-year veteran Officer Robert Quihuis ran to the front of the house to head him off, said Officer William Hall.
During the course of the chase, Hall said, Terry drew a 9-millimeter pistol and allegedly pointed it at Richards, who fired one shot at Terry but missed, Hall said. Terry continued to run and Quihuis followed him. Terry allegedly turned and pointed the pistol at police again, this time at Quihuis as his target.
