Malibu : Firm Hired to Study Sewer
Malibu has hired a San Francisco consulting firm to recommend a comprehensive sewer plan that would replace Los Angeles County’s ill-fated $43-million sewer proposal.
The City Council, by a vote of 4 to 1, awarded a $241,000 contract to Phillip Williams & Associates last week to conduct a study of waste-water treatment alternatives to the county’s plan.
Mayor Walt Keller cast the dissenting vote, saying the contract was too expensive.
City officials expressed hope that a draft version of the firm’s findings would be available to the public in November and that a final plan may be in place by December.
Malibu’s leaders pledged to come up with a sewer plan of their own last March in return for Los Angeles County dropping its controversial sewer plan and its opposition to Malibu cityhood.
