Two motorists died in Los Angeles County over the New Year’s holiday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Between 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and midnight Wednesday, 193 motorists were arrested in L.A. County for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, CHP Officer Glen Dominguez said.
In 1985, the last time the New Year’s holiday spanned a 30-hour period, there were seven traffic deaths in Los Angeles County. That year, there were 203 DUI arrests in the county and 1,037 statewide, Dominguez said.
Last year, when Jan. 1 fell on a Tuesday, there were three traffic deaths in Los Angeles County over a 102-hour period, Dominguez said.
