An America’s Cup Class yacht built by the Italian challenger lost its rudder in heavy seas as it was being prepared for a practice sail, a syndicate official said.
A photographer who witnessed Sunday’s incident said the Il Moro di Venezia V nearly sank at the mouth of San Diego Bay while under tow from the harbor to one of the America’s Cup courses.
