In a break with tradition, the County Board of Supervisors elected 2nd District Supervisor George Bailey its chairman for 1992.
Bailey won the post Tuesday after 1991 Vice Chairman Brian Bilbray passed up the chairmanship and suggested honoring the East County supervisor. Bailey will retire this year after two terms as a supervisor and 34 years of public service.
The chairmanship of the five-member board rotates annually. Traditionally, the past year’s vice chairman takes over as head of the panel.
Bilbray will remain vice chairman for another year. Supervisor Susan Golding was elected chairman pro tem.
