Group Sues School District Over Assessment Plan
- Share via
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assn. has sued the Bonita Unified School District for creating a maintenance assessment district that the association says violates Proposition 13.
The suit seeks to overturn the assessment district voted last year by the school board, which serves San Dimas and La Verne in the eastern San Gabriel Valley. A Jarvis spokesman said Proposition 13 permits local governments to impose special taxes only with two-thirds voter approval.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, was served Wednesday on Bonita officials. Similar suits were filed last summer against the Orange Unified School District and Whittier Union High School District after they approved assessment districts.
