Swiss Freeze Marcos Funds: Swiss authorities have ordered the protective seizure of $80 million deposited by the family of ousted Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos and an associate in Geneva banks, a Philippine official said last week. Chief government lawyer Francisco Chavez said the order was equivalent to a permanent freeze on the money, and the Marcos family could not touch it until the courts decided ownership. Manila is seeking to recover $356 million allegedly held by the late president and his associates in secret Swiss bank accounts.
