THOUSAND OAKS : Hearing to Focus on Crowding of Renters

The Thousand Oaks Planning Commission decided Monday to hold a public hearing Feb. 3 on a proposal to limit crowding in rental houses.

The commission voted 4 to 0 to delay discussing the proposal and dedicate an entire meeting to a hearing, where a large number of residents are expected to testify, Senior Planner Pamela J. Leopold said. Commissioner Irving Wasserman was absent.

The proposed ordinance would require landlords to get a permit before renting single-family houses to four or more adults. Officials would consider available parking, the number of bathrooms and the size of the house before issuing a permit, Leopold said.

The ordinance was suggested by a 12-member committee headed by Councilwoman Elois Zeanah. The panel included representatives of the real estate industry, landlords and residents.
