American Express Declines Comment on Lehman: American Express officials declined to comment on a published report that the company has had preliminary talks about a possible sale of a big stake in the Lehman Bros. investment banking division of its Shearson Lehman Bros. brokerage. Lehman managers were said to have raised the possibility of buying 50% of the investment bank for more than $1 billion. American Express is known to be considering the sale of certain assets. But there was no indication that an announcement on Lehman was imminent.
