1,200 Residents Lose Power in Outage

NEWPORT BEACH — An outage in Corona del Mar and the Balboa Peninsula left 1,200 residents without power for about two hours Wednesday night.
Southern California Edison Co. was flooded with calls at about 7:50 p.m. when a cable failed at a substation at Coast Highway and Bayside Drive. That substation serves the peninsula through an underwater cable.
Power was rerouted, and electricity was restored by 10:15 p.m., said Charles Wilson, area manager at Edison’s Newport branch.
Businesses along the strip were not affected by the outage, Wilson said.
