HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Buena Girls Tune Up With Victory

In a tuneup for a game against powerful Morningside High, Buena jumped to a 30-point halftime lead Thursday and dismantled Oxnard, 84-29, in a Channel League girls’ basketball game at Oxnard.
Mikko Giordano had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Buena (11-1, 5-0 in league play), ranked fifth in the Southern Section Division I. The Bulldogs will meet Morningside, winner of four consecutive Southern Section titles, Saturday at Ventura College at 7:30 p.m. Morningside is the defending Division 1-AA champion.
Julie Hardy added 14 points for Buena, which led, 43-13, at halftime and forced Oxnard (7-5, 3-2) into 32 turnovers.
In other girls’ basketball games:
Thousand Oaks 58, Agoura 25--An 18-2 first-quarter run gave the Lancers the lead for good in a Marmonte League game at home. Michelle Palmisano scored a game-high 24 points and teammates Lori Sherman and Melissa Wood each added 11 for Thousand Oaks (14-1, 4-0).
Chaminade 49, St. Paul 30--Despite 19 turnovers, Chaminade (13-5, 2-1) breezed in a Mission League game at home behind Maria Costa’s 20 points and Georgia Roy’s 11 rebounds.
La Reina 38, Oak Park 37--Alexa Valavanis’ three-point basket at the buzzer pulled Oak Park to within a point in a Tri-Valley League game but the Eagles (6-7, 1-1) remained winless against La Reina in school history.
St. Bonaventure 64, Moorpark 53--Denice Babby scored 28 points, had 18 rebounds and eight steals to lead visiting St. Bonaventure (7-7, 2-0) to a come-from-behind Tri-Valley League victory.
Hart 43, Burbank 41--Lorile Downen made a 15-foot basket at the buzzer to lift the Indians (6-10, 1-1) to a Foothill League win.
Bishop Montgomery 67, Notre Dame 39--Shanon McGlothlin scored a game-high 18 points for Notre Dame (6-9, 0-2) in a Mission League game.
Bell-Jeff 62, El Segundo 11--Lori Talley and Lori Leon each had 14 points and six assists for the Guards (15-3, 3-0) in a San Fernando League game. Cathy Flores added 10 points and 21 rebounds.
Flintridge Sacred Heart 50, Louisville 40--Stephanie Horner had 11 points and 16 rebounds for host Louisville (7-8, 0-3) in a San Fernando Valley League game.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Highland 88, Glendale Academy 58--Brian Burleson and Pharaoh Davis each had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead host Highland (6-11) in a nonleague game.
Westside Prep 52, Highland Hall 45--Westside Prep outscored the host Hawks by 10 points in the third and fourth quarters to overturn a 13-point Highland Hall lead.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Royal 1, Newbury Park 0--Nick Butcher scored in the 60th minute of a Marmonte League match at Rancho-Simi Park. Goalkeeper Steve Hambly stopped a one-on-one breakaway in the first half to preserve the shutout for the Highlanders (9-2-1, 4-0).
Moorpark 1, Oak Park 1 (2 OTs)--Todd Thomas scored on an assist from Carlos Torres to give visiting Oak Park (7-2-3, 4-0-2) a 1-0 lead at the 17-minute mark in a Tri-Valley League match.
Burroughs 1, Schurr 0--Roberto Perez scored on an assist by Ryan Fitzpatrick at the 61-minute mark for Burroughs (11-2-2, 1-0-1) in a Foothill League match.
Agoura 0, Channel Islands 0--Agoura (5-5-4, 0-3-1) outshot Channel Islands, 27-17, in a Marmonte League match at Agoura.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Simi Valley 6, Thousand Oaks 0--Amy Powell and Amy Hunter each scored two goals to lead host Simi Valley (15-1, 4-0) in a Marmonte League match. Anne Dulcich and Monica Gerardo each added a goal for Simi Valley.
Burroughs 5, Muir 0--Soni Medina scored two goals and had two assists to lead host Burroughs (6-2-1, 2-0) in a Foothill League match. Lorraine McIntire, Shauna McDonell and Kristen Granados each scored for Burroughs.
Harvard-Westlake 4, Immaculate Heart 0--Alyze Lowen had two goals and two assists for Harvard-Westlake in a Sunshine League match at La Canada High.
Westlake 3, Camarillo 1--Camarillo outshot Westlake, 25-12, but Warrior goalkeeper Audrey Maxfield notched 15 saves to help lift Westlake (5-3-2, 3-1) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.
