MELBOURNE, Australia — Top-seeded Monica Seles showed no sighns of a strained neck during a 6-1, 6-1 third-round victory over Yayuk Basuki during the third round of the Australian Open on Friday.
Seles has spent less than three hours on court and hasn’t lost a set in her three victories. The defending champion, who won all three Grand Slam events she entered last year, used the match against Basuki to sharpen her baseline game.
“When I go out for a match, I never try anything tactical,” Seles said. “I just paly. I never go into a match with a game plan.”
Seles didn’t even need to go to the net. Basuki made 42 errors to Seles’ 15.
