Lee in South Africa: Director Spike Lee will make his first trip to South Africa this week to shoot scenes for his film about black leader Malcolm X, the Weekly Mail in Johannesburg reported. Lee, who does not allow his films to be shown on general release in South Africa, was also reported to be planning workshops for black filmmakers during his visit. Officials of the radical Azanian People’s Organization, which boycotted singer Paul Simon’s recent concerts in South Africa, said the group would have no objection to Lee’s visit if he made a contribution to the anti-apartheid struggle.
