MOORPARK : City Expansion Plan Hearings Scheduled
- Share via
The final round of public hearings on a proposal to expand Moorpark’s boundaries will begin tonight before the City Council.
Under the proposal, Moorpark would expand into the hillsides north of the city and the farmland to the southwest. Developers have proposed to build about 5,500 houses on the properties that are being considered for annexation.
The city’s Planning Commission voted against the proposal, with commissioners saying they do not want the city to grow too fast.
Residents who support the expansion have said the vacant land around the city will be developed regardless of whether the city annexes the properties. Expanding the city’s boundaries will give Moorpark more control over its surroundings, according to supporters of the proposal.
The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. A second council hearing on the expansion proposal is scheduled Jan. 29.
