Sheriff’s deputies arrested two 21-year-old Camarillo men on suspicion of burglary Tuesday after they were seen trying to conceal a suitcase full of stolen property, authorities said.
Jerry Hooper and Jason Boord were kneeling near a car on Eston Street in Camarillo and trying to cover the suitcase with a jacket when a deputy drove past them at 12:45 p.m., Detective Mike Colon said.
When the pair saw the deputy, they fled on foot into Pleasant Valley Park, leaving the suitcase near the vehicle but taking a coat and a backpack, Colon said.
The men were confronted in the park by a second deputy, who questioned them, searched the backpack and found a camera and clothing that reportedly had just been stolen during a burglary of an Eston Street residence.
Further investigation showed that the suitcase was filled with additional clothing and two videocassette recorders that also had been reported stolen, Colon said.
Both men were booked into Ventura County Jail on Tuesday, Colon said.
