A paraplegic man who was wanted in the sexual assault and shooting of two women in Compton killed himself Tuesday in Arkansas when police arrived at a home to arrest another man, officials said.
Jerome Coulter, 24, who was sought in the Sept. 28, 1991, attacks near Compton College, shot himself in the chest with a 9-millimeter handgun and died in the back room of a home in Little Rock, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Irma Becerra.
Little Rock homicide detectives were in a front room of the home to arrest Tyrone Poindexter, 20, for a Dec. 31 slaying in their city, officials said. Coulter, rendered a paraplegic in a 1987 gang shooting, was one of three people wanted in the attack on J’neane Griffie, 20, of Los Angeles, and a 24-year-old woman. The women were raped and shot execution-style, but the second woman survived.
Detectives are still seeking Eric Robinson, 23, and Roberta Brooks, 24, also known as Michelle Stewart, Becerra said.
