A South El Monte man remained hospitalized in serious condition Thursday with seven gunshot wounds received in what Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said was a gang-related shooting on the Pomona Freeway Tuesday night.
Gale Berry, 18, was shot six times in the back and once in the face when a van pulled alongside his Ford Maverick on California 60 near Rosemead Boulevard and the occupants opened fire with more than one gun after challenging Berry, investigators said.
Berry was taken to Beverly Hospital in Montebello.
His passenger, Maricio Campana, 19, also of South El Monte, received two gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and one to the left leg. He was treated and released. Two other passengers escaped injury.
There have been no arrests.
